Oldest Evidence of Bedding Found By Rossella Lorenzi, Discovery News Evidence of Oldest Bedding May 5, 2004 — An Upper Paleolithic camp, once submerged by the waters of the Sea of Galilee, has yielded the world's oldest evidence of bedding, according to Israeli archaeologists. Known as Ohalo II, the site was abandoned by Stone Age fishermen and hunters nearly 23,000 years ago, following a flood. "Calm, relatively deep, water covered the site, and the immediate deposition of fine clay and silt layers began. Lisa R. Schoolcraft Staff Writer Simmons Co., the nation's second-largest bedding manufacturer, is planning to open three new manufacturing plants. New plants will open in Sumner, Wash., and Hazleton, Pa. A third plant will open in South Georgia as a result of the closing of Atlanta-based Simmons' Jacksonville, Fla., plant. The plants will range in size from 150,000 square feet to 215,000 square feet. The Sumner facility is expected to employ 140. The other two will employ 225 workers.
